Save Tango
Apparently, Tango, that radioactive Orange fizzy drink, is under threat. I’m not entirely sure what from – although www.savetango.co.uk attempts to inform us all about it. Political correctness seems to be the main culprit in this new campaign which relies as much on fuzzy orange nostalgia as anything else.
But then again, when you looks through the archive of Tango TV spots, you are reminded you of how good they were. I remember at the tender age of 12 watching the Black Current Tango ad, backed by Felix’s uncomplicated dance epic, ‘Don’t You Wan’t Me’, and being genuinely excited, possibly for the first time, by an advert. In truth, I can think of few further adverts that had me glued to every break purely in the hope of a surprise appearance. Being slapped by an orange man in a rubber costume may well be remembered as the face of Tango, but to me, this will always be their finest moment.
Oh, and as a side note. Why is it when I think of Tango, I immediately think of Woolworths? Sure, we’ll all miss it when (if) it goes, but did anyone ever actually buy it?
Creative Inspiration?
I saw this a few weeks back on threebillion project and found it really rather good. Anything shot in one take with a cast of plenty deserves a nod of appreciation.
However, I certainly wasn’t the only one. Sure, it is hardly a new technique, and of course we are inspired by what we see around us….. But anyway, certainly less of a nod of appreciation to those behind Wiley’s new video.
